This tour takes us through the principal streets of Accra to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, named after the first president of Ghana. You will have the opportunity to visit the National Centre for Culture where you find various African arts & crafts for sale.

Our first visit will take us to the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre for Pan African Culture. Around Kumasi (4 days/3 nights)

Day 1: Kumasi
We will take a drive through scenic vegetation, villages and the breathtaking Kwahu scarps to Kumasi. We stopover enroute at Ejisu, hometown of Yaa Asantewa, the bravest female army general in the history of the Ashantis. Yaa Asantewa led the Ashantis in the British-Ashanti War of 1901 and was exiled to Seychelles island where she later died.

Day 2: Obuasi
After breakfast we will leave by bus to Obuasi, the “Land of Gold” for a tour of the gold mines. After visiting the gold mines we will return to Kumasi and continue to the African art & craft village of Ahiwaa, where the famous Ashanti stools and fertility dolls are produced. Then we visit the African art & craft village of Ntonso, noted for the hand-printed Adinkra fabrics. Here we will also witness the various stages for brewing dye for Adinkra cloth from the roots and barks of the “Badie” tree, stamping of Adinkra symbols and special needle embroidery of Adinkra cloth. Overnight in Kumasi.

Day 3: Buabeng/Fiema – Kintampo Falls
After breakfast, we will drive to the Monkey Sanctuary at Buabeng/Fiema for game viewing. We continue to the Catholic Grottos and Monastery, (Optional). Lunch at Techiman. After lunch we will visit the Kintampo falls where we will spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing. From Kintampo Falls we return to Kumasi. Overnight in Kumasi.

Day 4: Accra
We return to Accra via the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. On the way back to Accra we stop at Bonwire. The traditional Kente cloth is made in Bonwire. Kente cloth is woven on traditional looms. Arriving in Accra late afternoon.

Along the Coast (4 days/3 nights)

Day 1: Kakum Nationial Park, Elmina Castle and Cape Coast Castle
The first stop on this trip is at Kakum National Park where we will have an hour’s walk through this rich tropical rainforest endowed with medicinal plants. After lunch we will continue to the Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castles to see the slave dungeons. After touring these remarkable landmarks of Ghana, we will continue to Takoradi. Overnight in Takoradi.

Day 2: Akatakyi Crocodile Pond and Busua Beach Resort
After breakfast we will drive west to the Akatakyi Crocodile Pond. Enroute we will stop to visit coconut and oil palm plantations. We will continue to Busua Beach Resort where the rest of the afternoon will be spent swimming, playing games and relaxing. Return to Takoradi. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3: Nzulezo Village on Stilts
We leave for Nzulezo (the village on stilts), 90km west of Takoradi. The ancestors of this village were said to have been led to the place by a snail. Nzulezo means “surface of water”. We will witness how the daily activities of the inhabitants such as cooking, schooling, sports, festivals and durbars takes place on water. In the afternoon we will visit Fort Appolonia at Benyin for a guided tour. Return to Takoradi. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Accra
We will return to Accra after breakfast, stopping over at Mankessim “Posuban Shrine”, traditional military war shrine for a briefing on the origin of the Akans, especially the Fantis. We arrive back in Accra late afternoon.

African Culture and Crafts

Day 1: Kumasi
During this 4 hour trip to Kumasi we will stopover at Nkawkaw for refreshments. In Kumasi, we have a guided tour of the township. We will also visit the Kumasi Military Museum and the Okomfo Anokye Sword site. This legendary sword is said to have been driven into the ground by this traditional priest over two hundred years ago. Overnight at a hotel.

Day 2: Craft villages
After breakfast we will drive to the Manhyia Palace, residence of the Ashanti King. From there we continue to the African arts & crafts village of Pankronu, where traditional African pottery is produced. We proceed to the African arts & crafts village of Ahwiaa where the famous fertility dolls are produced. Finally we move on to the African arts & crafts village Ntonso, home of Adinkra cloth.

We return to Kumasi for lunch. After lunch we return to Accra via the African arts & crafts village Bonwire, home of the colourful, world famous Kente cloth woven on traditional looms. We will arrive in Accra late afternoon.

Golden History (2 days/1 night)

Day 1: Kumasi/Craft villages
We will drive through the scenic vegetation and breathtaking Kwahu scarps, to Kumasi. En route we will stop over to visit the village of Yaa Asantewa. Yaa Asantewa was an extraordinarily brave female army general who led the Ashantis to war against the British in 1901.

We will continue to Kumasi arriving there late afternoon for a guided city tour to the Kumasi Cultural Centre, Prempeh II Museum, Military Museum and the Kumasi Central Market.

We will also visit the African art & craft village of Ahiwaa, where the famous Ashanti stools and fertility dolls are produced. Then we visit the African art & craft village of Ntonso, noted for the hand-printed Adinkra fabrics. Overnight in Kumasi.

Day 2: Obuasi/Bonwire
After breakfast we leave by bus to Obuasi, the “Land of Gold”. In Obuasi we enjoy a guided tour of the gold mines. Lunch will be at Obuasi. After lunch we return to Kumasi and continue to Accra via Bonwire the Kente weaving village. Arriving late evening.

Day 1: Arrival
Arrival and transfer to hotel. Orientation and overnight.

Day 2: Around Kumasi
We depart for Kumasi in the morning where we will spend the first day of this tour visiting the Cultural Centre, Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and Okomfo Anokye Sword Site. We will continue to the craft African arts & crafts village of Ahwiaa, where the famous Ashanti stools and fertility dolls are carved. We will observe how these skillful craftsmen produce masks and symbolic figures. Then we will visit the African arts & crafts village of Ntonso, noted for the famous “Adinkra” cloth. Adinkra is printed with dye produced out of the roots and bark of the “Badie” tree. Return to Kumasi Overnight.

Day 3: Fiema Monkey Sanctuary / Larabanga / Mole Game Park
We depart from your hotel early in the morning for the Buabeng/Fiema Monkey Sanctuary for game viewing. We will stop over at Techiman for breakfast before continuing to Mole Game Park via the Larabanga Mosque, the oldest Mosque in Ghana, where a copy of the Holy koran is believed to have descended from heaven and is still preserved in the Mosque.

Day 4: Mole Game Park
On foot from the motel, we will proceed on an early morning game viewing trip in Mole game park. En route, we will use paths that expose us to the ancestral art of tracking and approaching animals silently. Wildlife to be encountered in Mole game park includes antelopes, warthogs, baboons, blue and black columbus, elephants, buffalo, the occasional lion, scads of leopards, hippos and hyenas.

Day 5: Crocodile Pond / Bolgatanga
After breakfast, we leave for the Paga crocodile pond located at the north-eastern border between Ghana and Burkina Faso, to visit this sacred sanctuary for crocodiles. The crocodiles here are enticed out of the water by the whistling of the caretaker and the brandishing of a live fowl. You will have the opportunity to pose for pictures whilst you sit or hold the tail of the crocodile. Return to Bolgatanga and overnight.

Day 6: Bolgatanga Market / Tamale
We will visit the African arts & crafts market of Bolgatanga, famous for straw baskets, fan, hats, local northern attries, leather goods, metal jewellery and other African crafts. We then depart for Tamale arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, the rest of the afternoon will be spent touring the principal streets and finally visiting a model village of the Dagombas. Overnight at Tamale.

Day 7: Kintampo / Kumasi 
Our return drive to Kumasi starts this morning. We will stop over briefly at the Kintampo Falls to refresh ourselves and have lunch. Continue to Kumasi. Overnight.

Day 8: Kumasi / Accra
After breakfast we return to Accra via Bonwire, home of the famous kente cloth. Arriving in the afternoon.

Lakes and Falls (2 days/1 night)

Day 1: Dodi Island
We will drive northeast through the semi-Savannah vegetation to Akosombo, arriving in time to join the “MV Dodi Princess” for a cruise on Lake Volta to Dodi Island. Lunch on board with live band music. Overnight at Volta Hotel.

Day 2: Wli Falls
After breakfast we will proceed to Hohoe in the Volta Region. Enroute we will stop at Dr. Noamesi’s Herbal Research Centre for a briefing on traditional methods of healing. We will continue to Wli Falls where we will cross the eleven log bridges of the River Agumatsu. Lunch will be at the pool side. The rest of he afternoon will be spent here relaxing. Return to Accra late afternoon.

Bird Watching

Ghana has excellent opportunities for bird watching. Along the coast there are many areas where bird watching can be enjoyed.

Wetlands located along the coastal belt of Ghana provide the right environment for avifauna. The Huhuese Creek which meanders from the Volta River to the Songhor Lagoon, in the Eastern Region, the Korle, Keta, Songhor and Muni Lagoons can be sited as having the highest avifaunal diversity along the coast.

Migratory and resident birds such as Fishing Terns, Stalking Herons/Genets, Herbivorous Tree Ducks, Fishing Pelicans and Foraging Waders all settle here.
